Eleanor Croxford

Architect

Ellie joined Architecture Initiative from Hawkins Brown where she worked for over 5 years. Ellie’s most recent experience has been Nightingale primary school and Otto residential apartments an education-led mixed-use project. This scheme provided an outstanding public two-form entry primary school combined with 89 private residential flats. The project used a cross-funding model to deliver the school funded through the sales of the flats built above. The school and residential projects both completed this year.

Ellie was a core team member from conception through to completion, being involved in both the residential and school schemes at design and tender stage and leading the school scheme as project architect on site. This core experience has meant Ellie has developed a wide range of skills from design, user consultation to technical delivery, she is skilled in Revit both in concept and detailed design having delivered this project to BIM level 2.

Ellie is interested in the social and cultural reach of architecture, she believes in responsive design that is as a result of the cultural and social context surrounding it as well as the meaningful dialogue between users and the community. She is also interested in architecture as a highly detailed and crafted practice, knowing that the detail of a door handle is as important as the façade and as such enjoys being involved in projects from early stage through to realisation.

Alongside this core experience Ellie has been involved in several residential schemes of varying scales. These include Southern House, a 30 storey residential tower in Croydon. Mill Hill, a contentious redevelopment of the former Crick institute in green belt into a residential-led master plan gaining planning through the GLA in 2018 and Streatham Road, a medium-scale design-led residential scheme of 30 units which achieved planning a second time after an initial refusal. Ellie has also led a number of competitions and bids for a range of clients and sectors.

Ellie’s interest in education extends to out of office activities. Ellie is a RIBA Architectural Ambassador, a scheme that joins schools with architects to bring architecture to the forefront of young people’s minds. She has also tutored at Nottingham, has been involved with Sheffield University summer school and is a mentor for Part I’s at Westminster University.

Ellie plays an active role in the office. In her time, she has arranged a number of office study trips, mentored junior practice members and been an active member of advocating workplace wellness. Outside of the office, Ellie continues to set herself challenges and strive to achieve the best she can. She is an avid runner. Whenever possible she is running the around the canals of East London and afar. She is currently in training to complete her third marathon and hopefully set another personal best.
