Situated on the site of the former Beanfields College in Corby, the Red Kite Academy provides an inclusive and welcoming environment for a hundred pupils with additional educational needs. In addition to the usual educational provisions, the Academy includes a hydrotherapy pool and a sensory suite, and a studio flat to help prepare pupils for independent life.

The school is designed to be flexible and adaptable, providing the Academy with the ability to accept pupils of all ranges and with additional needs ranging from those on the autism spectrum to children with severe and multiple learning difficulties and mobility impairments.

The single-storey building is arranged over two wings extending from a central volume containing the main hall, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy suites.

Approaching the building, a warm, timber-clad canopy extends from the front of the building over the drop off zones, sheltering pupils as they enter the school. Individual entrances to all classrooms give every pupil direct access to the landscape.

A central spine corridor runs the length of the school, encouraging independence by providing access for pupils with all levels of mobility. Along with this corridor, north-facing windows scoop daylight deep into the school to aid navigation and glazing to the ends of all corridors ensure that external views are maintained from all internal spaces.
